Description:
This expandable starter set, especially for various weaver ant species such as Polyrhachis spec. or Oecophylla spec. includes not only the optimally adapted formicarium but also the appropriate accessories for keeping this ant species.
The sliding door in the front (opening 150x200mm) facilitates the work in the formicarium, even with large colonies or planting of the formicarium with a host plant for example Oecophylla smaragdina. Additional formicariums can be connected via the two 50mm holes on the side. The stainless steel grid inserts provide good ventilation and are robust against mechanical impact. The thermo- and hygrometer inside the system is absolutely child- and pet-safe and allows an easy control of the climate values. If necessary, the humidity can be increased with the spray bottle. The drinker clear 20ml – sponge is intended for the supply of fresh water, the drinker 2ml – 360 degrees for honey or sugar solution.
Important: Please moisten the substrate before use, so that the mixture can combine and develop a firm hold in the ant farm. In addition, too dry and dusty substrate can lead to blocking the respiratory tract of the ants and in the worst case the animals suffocate.
Important note about the sliding door frame:
The frame can be easily attached to the screws attached to the rails of the sliding door. To do this, carefully loosen only the nuts inside. A small Phillips screwdriver (crosshead screwdriver) is required. Put the frame together and hang inside on the screws. Then carefully reattach the nuts and under no circumstances turn too tightly, otherwise the glass may be damaged.
Notes on production
The glass is cut according to DIN 1249 with a tolerance of +/- 1mm. For extremely small ant species, additional breakout protection is neccessary.
Note on honeydew:
Content: 10 ml
This is a natural product that we have refined after extensive testing in our laboratory and developed into a food that is very well accepted by ants. The reason is that unprocessed honeydew honey in its concentrated original form is not well accepted by ants and their metabolism.
Our honeydew was collected in the unpolluted wild mountain forests of Bulgaria. Honeydew is produced only in a very limited period, of about two months in summer. Therefore it is very rare. Due to the specific soil characteristics of the forests and climate, existentially important nutrients were stored in the leaves of the trees, which are absorbed by the aphids. This is what makes this honeydew mix so desirable to ants.
Application:
Amount of food should be consumed within about 3 days.
Description:
Honeydew, unlike flower honey, is derived from secretions of plant-sucking insects such as aphids. Honeydew is a favorite food source of many insects such as ants, bees, and even bumblebees. Bees and bumblebees lick it from leaves or needles of different trees. Ants such as Lasius niger keep the aphids regularly. They even defend them against predators and carry them to fresh shoots.
Honeydew is popular with ants mainly because of its somewhat different components. The main sugars in honeydew are sucrose and fructose, but smaller amounts of maltose, trehalose, melezitose, raffinose and other oligosaccharides are also present. In addition to sugars and water, honeydew also contains existentially important amino acids, minerals, trace elements, adenosines, phosphates and other ingredients such as vitamins.
Uses:
For honey-eating ant species (Meliphagidae).
It is a supplementary feed
It can be offered to the animals in the delivered state. Since humidity reduces the sugar concentration and starts a fermentation process, the food should be changed every 3 days. Thoroughly clean the feeding bowl/tube before reuse.
An opened package should be used tightly closed until indicated (best before date).
Nutritional values per 100 g:

Note on Blanched Crickets:
Our Blanched Crickets are an easy way to provide your ants with freshly preserved protein food without having to feed live insects. The included crickets (Acheta domesticus) have been gently blanched to ensure that nutritional value, flavor and aroma are preserved. In addition, the chitinous shell of the insects is softened in this way, so that it can be digested more easily. The compounds of the collagenous proteins are broken down so that the ants can utilize them better. Canned Acheta domesticus have the same nutritional value as live crickets, but are easier to digest.
The blanched crickets are not suitable for hunting ant species that require live food. (e.g., ponerines (primordial ants) such as Harpegnathos or Odontomachus).
Other advantages:
Guaranteed to be free of mites
Portionable
Sterilized and vacuumized
Without additives
Crickets from sustainable purely organic breeding, fed with organic waste
Notice:
Once opened, keeps for about four days in the refrigerator. Longer shelf life if frozen.
