Description: Our plaster nest with prefabricated passages and chambers is suitable for many ant species, especially for species that build their nests in very sandy or stony soils. It has two connection sockets for nest access. Gypsum has the property of absorbing water, so that a certain amount of moisture is stored. Nevertheless, the plaster nest should not be used permanently damp as otherwise mold can form (due to food residues or excrement from the ants). Therefore, species from rather dry regions should be kept here if possible. These would be species from Mediterranean or desert regions, for example.
Note: Due to their design, they are not suitable for very small species (e.g. Pheidole species, Temnothorax species), gaps of 0.3 – 0.5 mm can occur.
Note on the connection sockets
Please note the following when attaching or removing hoses:
If the tubing is very difficult to fit onto the connection socket, the socket should be lightly rubbed with a drop of our break-out protection oil or powder. The hose should then be pushed onto the socket using twisting or screwing movements without straining the socket with up and down movements. The same applies when removing the hoses from the connection socket. Please do not simply pull it off!
