In our Combi starter set you can keep almost any ant species. It is best suited for small species and colonies. But also large species can be kept in a combi starter set for the first years. Thanks to the flexible expansion options, it can be extended at any time.

The sizes of the starter sets (S, M, L) differ only in the distance between the plates of the ant farm and the size of the holes for connection to ant arenas and other ant farms (both matching the size of the ant species).
S = 6mm for small species like Myrmica
M = 10mm for medium species like Lasius and Formica
L = 20mm for large species such as Camponotus with nest insert also for smaller ant species.

For ants that like to nest in wood or between/under stones you can use our Cork or Gypsum nest inserts (only available for the Combi Starter Set size L). Even our Digfix nests can be used in a Combi set and are available in all sizes.
