Information in accordance with the German Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG)
Our WEEE registration number: DE 54590387
1 Introduction
The ElektroG regulates the placing on the market, take-back and environmentally sound disposal of electrical and electronic equipment. The aim is to promote environmental protection and ensure the recycling of valuable raw materials.
- legal obligations for consumers
- Prohibition of disposal in residual waste: Old electrical appliances may not be disposed of in residual waste.
- Obligation to return: Consumers are legally obliged to dispose of used waste electrical and electronic equipment at municipal collection centres (ÖRE – public waste disposal authorities) or in appropriate take-back systems.
- Pollutants and recycling:
- Old electrical appliances can contain harmful substances that can damage the environment and health if not stored or disposed of properly.
- At the same time, they contain valuable raw materials such as iron, plastic, silver or glass, which can be recycled.
3 Which devices are affected?
The ElektroG applies to most electrical and electronic appliances that are powered by electricity or electromagnetic fields. These include, among others:
- Climate computer
- Heating mats and cables
- Digital thermometer and hygrometer
- Humidifiers (foggers)
- Fan
A complete list of the categories concerned is contained in the current legal directive.
4 Labelling of affected devices
Products that fall under the ElektroG are marked with the symbol of a crossed-out dustbin. This indicates that the appliance must not be disposed of with residual waste, but must be disposed of via collection centres or take-back systems.
