Conhecidas como cortadoras de folhas, essas formigas cultivam fungos como sua principal fonte de alimento.<\/p>\n<p>Para o conseguir, a Atta mexicana emprega uma for\u00e7a de trabalho altamente especializada e cooperativa. As forrageadoras aventuram-se em busca de vegeta\u00e7\u00e3o fresca, cortando as folhas em peda\u00e7os manej\u00e1veis e transportando-os de volta para o ninho. Estes fragmentos de folhas n\u00e3o s\u00e3o consumidos diretamente, mas servem de base para as suas explora\u00e7\u00f5es de fungos.
