In tegenstelling tot soorten die op de grond leven, bouwen ze hun hele leven tussen de takken. In plaats daarvan gebruiken ze hun larven als levende spoelen. Werksters houden een larve voorzichtig in hun kaken en stimuleren haar met hun antennes tot ze zijde afscheidt. Deze zijde bindt bladeren samen en vormt kamers, tunnels en muren.<\/p>\n<p>Het bouwproces is een staaltje van samenwerking. Sommige arbeiders buigen bladeren in positie, terwijl anderen hun lichamen verbinden tot kettingen en ladders om gaten te overbruggen.
