Deze voorkeur is waarschijnlijk te wijten aan de relatieve schaarste van verse eiwitbronnen in hun natuurlijke habitat.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\n\n<\/div>\n<p>In een gecontroleerd experiment presenteerden we <i>C. nicobarensis<\/i> met de larven van de Tenebrio molitor kever. De mieren observeerden de larven verschillende keren, maar in plaats van onmiddellijk aan te vallen, aarzelden ze. Na een paar ontmoetingen probeerden ze de larve te doden. Hun pogingen bleken echter onvoldoende en de larve wist te ontsnappen door zich ondergronds in te graven. Dit gedrag suggereert dat <i>C. nicobarensis<\/i> is niet bijzonder aangepast aan actieve predatie en geeft in plaats daarvan de voorkeur aan opportunistisch eten van gemakkelijkere of stilstaande
