Wevermieren hebben geen klassiek formaicarium nodig met een nestruimte en een arena. In de natuur nestelen ze in de boomtoppen of in struiken, maar nooit op de grond of onder de grond.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Oecophylla mierensoorten<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Als je Oecophylla wilt houden, dan hebben ze echte planten nodig om hun kolonie te laten groeien. Daarom raden wij een Formicarium aan van minstens 40cm hoog. Je moet ze een plant aanbieden met vrij grote bladeren, want ze gebruiken hun lavaszijde om blaadjes van een levende plant tot een coconachtig nest te weven. De plant moet vrij zijn van bestrijdingsmiddelen of kunstmest. Bijvoorbeeld planten uit een biologische plantenkwekerij of gespecialiseerde terraristik winkels zijn een optie. Sommige van deze mierensoorten nestelen in hoger gelegen gebieden en andere dichter bij de grond.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ze verschillen van de Oecophylla omdat ze geen levende planten nodig hebben om hun nest te bouwen. In plaats daarvan verzamelen ze alles, van gevallen bladeren of naalden van coniferen tot kleine stokjes en stenen en weven die tot een stevige coconachtige structuur. Wij bevelen het gebruik van onze \"nestballen\" aan, omdat gebleken is dat deze door Polyrhachis mierensoorten zeer goed worden geaccepteerd voor het bouwen van een
