This bundle contains everything you need to successfully support a Crematogaster scutellaris colony through the first few months of keeping. It is ideal for beginners and can easily be expanded.<\/p>\n

Ant species Crematogaster scutellaris<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Crematogaster scutellaris is a predominantly omnivorous ant species that consumes both plant and animal food. It is widespread throughout the Mediterranean region and is also found in southern parts of Central Europe. Typical for this species is its characteristic, pear-shaped abdomen, which it raises in case of danger – a striking behavior to deter enemies.<\/p>\n

The colonies usually consist of one queen (monogynous), but can also house several queens. The workers exhibit active and curious behavior and defend their nests vigorously. Crematogaster scutellaris is particularly well known for its ability to nest in dead wood or tree hollows.<\/p>\n

Nest for Crematogaster scutellaris<\/strong><\/h3>\n

As this species prefers to nest in dry dead wood or cracks and crevices, this set contains a Digfix nest insert. This allows a good view of the inside of the nest and simulates natural conditions. Alternatively, they can be kept in cork or wooden nests, which come very close to their natural habitat.<\/p>\n

Food for Crematogaster scutellaris<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Crematogaster scutellaris is an omnivore with a particular preference for sweet liquids such as honey or sugar solutions. It also needs protein-rich food, e.g. small insects, especially for rearing its brood. In the wild, it also feeds on tree sap and small arthropods.<\/p>\n

Description:<\/strong>
\nThe Digfix Starter Set is suitable for various ant species, especially for those that nest in sand and (dead) wood. It can be kept dry or slightly moist.
\nThe transparent farm can be used with the ANTCUBE Digfix plate. The ants dig their own tunnels and chambers into the material. If required, further modules can be connected via the 50mm holes in the cover, such as the separately available foggers, fans or lights. Alternatively, matching formicaria plugs are included to close the openings. If you prefer, you can also operate the formicarium openly by simply placing the removable frame on the ground and applying ant escape protection oil to its edge. The \u2018watering can 2ml – 360 degrees\u2019 is intended for honey\/sugar solution, the \u2018watering can clear 20ml – sponge\u2019 for water. The \u2018Mini Thermo-Hygrometer\u2019 can be attached to the frame or the cover and displays the climate values.<\/p>\n

Important:<\/strong><\/span> Please moisten the ground before use so that the mixture can bind and develop a firm hold in the ant farm. In addition, a ground that is too dry and dusty can cause the ants’ airways to become blocked, causing them to suffocate in the worst case.<\/p>\n

Recommendation:<\/strong> We recommend a layer of substrate 2 mm high so that the animals cannot dig themselves into the arena and instead use the farm provided for that purpose. We also recommend lightly piercing the nesting material in the farm (sand\/clay, Digfix, etc.) in one place to make digging easier for the animals.
\nNote:<\/strong> The nest can be used in a dry or humid formicarium. If the nest is kept permanently wet (too wet), food remains can cause mould to form.
\nNote on Digfix:<\/strong> The natural colour can vary between green-grey-brown and earth-brown. The colour has no influence on the quality.<\/p>\n

Notes on production<\/strong>
\nThe glass is cut according to DIN 1249 with a tolerance of +\/- 1mm. For extremely small ant species, additional breakout protection is essential.<\/p>\n

Notes on the farm<\/strong>
\nWhen connecting or disconnecting tubes, the following should be noted:
\nIf the tube is difficult to fit onto the connector, a drop of our anti-escape oil or powder should be applied to the connector. The tube should then be pushed onto the connector by twisting or screwing it on, without applying any up and down pressure to the connector. The same applies when removing the tubes from the farm connector. Please do not just pull them off!<\/p>\n

Notes on Cricket Jam:<\/strong>
\nOur Cricket Jam is an easy way to provide your ants with freshly preserved protein food without having to feed live insects. The crickets (Acheta domesticus) are gently cooked to ensure that nutritional value, taste and aroma are preserved. In addition, the chitinous exoskeleton of the insects is softened in this way so that it can be digested more easily. The collagen protein compounds are split so that the ants can utilise them better. The Acheta domesticus from the tin have the same nutritional value as live crickets, but are easier to digest.
\nThe cricket jam is not suitable for hunting ant species that require live food (e.g. ponerines (uromyid ants) such as Harpegnathos or Odontomachus).<\/p>\n

Description:<\/strong> This is a product consisting of various carbohydrates (such as honey and sugar)<\/p>\n

Application:<\/strong> The food tube can be placed whole in the formicarium, or alternatively, depending on the needs\/size of the colony, smaller quantities can be placed in a food bowl. The food should be consumed within about 3 days, otherwise there is a risk of mould. For the same reason, clean the food bowl before refilling.<\/p>\n

Use:<\/strong>
\nSugar-honey solution = for sugar\/honey-eating ant species
\nThis is a supplementary food
\nIt can be offered to the animals as supplied. Since the sugar concentration decreases due to the humidity and a fermentation process begins, the food should be replaced every 3 days. Thoroughly clean the feeding bowl\/tube before reuse.
\nOnce opened, the package should be kept tightly closed (if stored in a dry place) and used by the date given (best before date).<\/p>\n
